These
arboreal lizards are native to the tropical rain forests of Southern Asia. Male Calotes have a more prominent dorsal
crest than females and display red, blue, green and black color changes when
excited.
Maximum size: 16”-20”
Lighting: Full spectrum fluorescent UV
bulbs and a basking light are required.
Temperature range: Day 76°- 88°F Night 70°-76°F
Food: Crickets, mealworms, waxworms, and pinkie mice coated in
vitamin/calcium supplement.
Water: A large shallow container of
clean water should always be available for soaking and drinking. The water must be changed frequently as the
lizards also use the water for defecation.
Housing/Habitat: Their natural habitat can be simulated with an aquarium equipped with an under tank heater at one end. The bottom of the aquarium should be covered with a jungle mix type litter, landscaped with plants, rocks, and driftwood for basking and climbing. Heating the water bowl will provide a constant source of humidity. In addition, frequent misting of the terrarium and substrate will provide the necessary humidity.
