Madagascan
Plated Lizards are native to the tropical rain forests of Madagascar. They are ground dwelling lizards and live in
close proximity to water.
Maximum size: 16”
Lighting: Full spectrum fluorescent UV
bulbs and a basking light are required.
Temperature range: Day 77°- 90° Night 70°-76°
Food: Crickets, mealworms, waxworms, night crawlers, feeder goldfish,
and pinkie mice coated in vitamin/calcium supplement. Some fruits and leafy green vegetables should be offered
occasionally.
Water: A large container of clean
water should always be available for swimming, soaking, and drinking must be
provided. The water must be changed
frequently as the lizards also use the water for defecation.
Housing/Habitat: Their natural habitat can be simulated with an aquarium equipped with an under tank heater at one end. The bottom of the aquarium should be covered with a jungle mix type litter, landscaped with plants, rocks, and driftwood for basking and climbing. It is important to provide hiding places. Frequently misting the terrarium and substrate will provide the necessary humidity.
