SUDAN PLATED LIZARD

Sudan Plated Lizards are native to the dry, rocky, semi-open regions of eastern and southeastern Africa.  They like to dig and are often found in termite mounds.  Plated lizards are hardy and quickly become tame.

 

Maximum size: 20”

 

Lighting:  Full spectrum fluorescent UV bulbs and a basking light are required.

 

Temperature range: Day 86°F/higher under localized basking lights Night 68°F

 

Food:  Crickets, mealworms, mealworm beetles, waxworms, earthworms, and pinkie mice.  Dark leafy greens and sweet fruits need to be included in their diet.  Their food should be coated in calcium and vitamin powder occasionally.

 

Water: Clean, fresh water should always be available.

 

Housing/Habitat: These large lizards require a spacious terrarium equipped with an under tank heating pad at one end and enough substrate to facilitate digging. Hiding places, some large rocks, and a sturdy branch should be provided.
